We’ve heard it so many times. We even say it and think it ourselves. Blue Monday. Hump Wednesday. Thank God it’s Friday. The universal feel is that work is a curse (it is) and that time could be better spent doing other things. Really though, we would eventually get to a point where we begin looking for something constructive to do, something more fulfilling and more meaningful.

Guest Post by Megha Shah: Hustle Your Way to the Finish Line (Vita. Consilio. 03.21.17)

Over the last few years, if there is anything I have learned, it is that there is no such thing as ‘luck’.

Luck is just an excuse made by those who are unwilling to work but wish to achieve all the success there is. We all know the saying – “the only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.” This is true and must be a guiding principle for you if you wish to achieve great success in any endeavor you pursue. I hate to be so morbid, but most of us like to think we’re so different from everyone else. And we are. That our path of life is unique to us. And it is. The truth is, we’re all headed in the same direction: to the grave. And as much as we don’t like to talk about it, there is nothing we can really do to change this course. Except, we can live our best lives, do our best work, and leave our best legacy behind for others to enjoy.

We all have to work. Nothing happens without it. But work is extremely more enjoyable and meaningful when it is directed toward a goal. Work for the sake of work is usually unfulfilling. It is only a means to pass time and make money. Work that results in achievement demands that we put that much more effort into it. When we’re excited about where we’re going, we are more likely to do whatever it takes to get there.

Surf the Waves, Don’t Let the Waves Carry You (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 366)

“The only thing a person can ever really do is keep moving forward. Take that big leap forward without hesitation, without once looking back. Simply forget the past and forge toward the future.”
— Alyson Noel

In many respects, it is the habits we form that make us or break us. Success or failure fully depends on what we choose to do or not do in order to move forward. Success is subjectively determined, but it is not a matter of following a formula or heeding to a set routine.

The choices we make determine what kind of life we live. You can be a surfer and ride the waves on your own volition and take yourself where you want to go. Or you can let the waves carry you wherever they want and that’s usually going to be somewhere you wouldn’t go yourself. Read more…

The Power of Motivation Is Limited (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 362)

“The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.”
— Arthur C. Clarke

Too often we think that the key to achieving our goals is being motivated. But motivation is very abstract. You can’t really catch it or grab hold of it and hang on to it. You can’t even force yourself into having it like you can with something like determination. It comes every once in a while. The rest of the time, it is up to you — your choices, your will, your self-discipline, your faith, and your persistence. Read more…
