You’re Not Everyone’s Cup of Coffee (Soul. Musings. 01/12/17)

SM011217

The world is filled with people who are looking for validation and approval of who they are. It’s natural to want to be liked, loved, and valued. As the great Austrian psychologist, Alfred Adler once said, “Genuine human connection is as essential to our existence as air and water.” Read more…

5 Ways to Know Your Relationship Will Fail (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 355)

5-ways-to-know-your-relationship-will-fail

“Relationships-of all kinds-are like sand held in your hand. Held loosely, with an open hand, the sand remains where it is. The minute you close your hand and squeeze tightly to hold on, the sand trickles through your fingers. You may hold onto some of it, but most will be spilled. A relationship is like that. Held loosely, with respect and freedom for the other person, it is likely to remain intact. But hold too tightly, too possessively, and the relationship slips away and is lost.”
— Kaleel Jamison

We all want our relationships to be successful. But some traits and attitudes will put you on the fast track to failure. If you understand what some of those are early in life, you will be able to develop and maintain meaningful and sincere relationships at every stage of life.

If it is done in the right way, relationships are very difficult. It has great rewards as well as equally great risks. Sometimes, you have to put yourself on the line and at other times, the other person has to put himself on the line. In the give and take, you want to make sure both are done equitably. Read more…

Everyone Deserves Respect (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 280)

everyone-deserves-respect

1 Peter 2:17 (NLT)
Respect everyone, and love the family of believers. Fear God, and respect the king.

Respect has become one of the most talked about but least practiced values in our society. We sing about respect, we write about respect, we hold intense conversations about respect, and we try to teach the young people around us about respect. Yet the actual practice of respect has become a main point of character that is largely irrelevant in everyday interactions. Read more…

3 Extra Things To Remember When Problems Persist (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 229)

3 Extra Things To Remember When Problems Persist

“When in crisis situations, never mourn along with the crises, rather speak to the crises saying, ‘Crises what opportunities are you hiding for me.’”
— Auliq-Ice

As human beings, we often only look at things through hindsight. We look at problems only after they have become evident and wonder how we could have handled it better. Sometimes we do this with success too. We reach a high pinnacle and look back and wonder how we got there. We’ll never escape the problems of life, but what we can do is learn from one problem and anticipate problems that might arise in the future and plan our response or reaction before we even have to deal with it. It’s kind of like being in the military. Soldiers are put in a semblance of a battle to plan what they will do when the reality of war hits them. It works the same way with our problems. It much easier to plot a strategy beforehand than to rush one together when everything has hit the fan. Read more…

Broken Crowns (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 175)

Broken Crowns

Luke 15:10 (NLT)
In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.

The value God places on each human life cannot be compared to anything else. Many times people want to know how much they matter to other people. But what really matters is how valued we are by God. In Scripture, a lost sheep, lost money, and a lost son were diligently searched for until they were found. This is how much God cares for us. Read more…

3 New Ways We Sabotage Ourselves (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 169)

3 New Ways We Sabotage Ourselves

“Your value lies not in status or title, but in the roots of your character and depth of your compassion.”
— Mollie Marti

Many times, it isn’t any external force that is holding us back. It isn’t the voices of other people or doors that were slammed in our face or anything like that. Many times, it’s the voice in our head, our own actions (or inactions), our own decisions, our own thoughts that put the hammer down on things. It’s all us. And when we wrap our minds around that fact, we realize we have more power to change our situations than we ever realized. Read more…

You Are Always on His Mind

You Are Always on His Mind

“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!” -Psalm 139:17-18 (NLT)

Have you ever considered what God thinks about? Do you want to know what is on His mind? The Bible tells us that God is always thinking about us and His thoughts about us are precious and beautiful. He thinks of us constantly. It is comforting to know that we were created by a God who always has us on His mind. Read more…
