You’ve Been Given This Mountain…but You’re Not Expected to Move It (Soul. Musings. 05/21/17)

So, you’re struggling to carry on. You’ve gone over everything again and again. You’ve checked in with God throughout the day and asked him to show you where you need to make a 360 or why your faith is being tried.

You’re in desperate need of someone to talk to, so you bring it up to your pastor or small group. In an attempt to encourage you, someone grabs your hand and tells you, “God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.”  Read more…

Faith Is Not a Token for the Merry-Go-Round (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 306)

James 2:24 (NLT)
So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.

It is taught in many churches that God rewards believers according to the level of their faith. This may be true when you initially enter into the family of God by receiving Jesus into your heart. However, some religious leaders take this idea too far. Faith is not to be equated with material possessions, power, fame, or wealth. We do not receive anything for our faith. It is not a token for the merry-go-round of the choicest bounty and blessings. Faith is the opportunity for God to work in our lives and become real to us. Read more…

Living on Different Terms (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 113)

Living on Different Terms

Jeremiah 10:23 (NLT)
I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course.

Because of our finite wisdom, we are wholly unable to control our destiny. Our limited understanding about God and life coupled with our propensity to sin and failure renders us unable to direct our own steps. What seems right to us is almost never right to God. And what God says is right many times doesn’t make sense to us. Man’s thoughts are not God’s thoughts. Similarly, man’s ways fall short of God’s divine plan.  Read more…

But Take Heart (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 91)

But Take Heart

John 16:33 (NLT)
Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

Throughout the world today, there are many people who live in fear. They feel guilty about the past, worried about the present, and are afraid of the future. This spirit of fear keeps them bound and acts as a deterrent and excuse for them to not live the life God has designed for them.  Read more…

The Battle of Waiting (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 61)

The Battle of Waiting

Romans 5:3 (NLT)
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.

One of the greatest battles we will ever fight is learning to develop patience. We don’t like to wait. We want everything now. We strive to make everything go our way. This is the way most of us live our lives — fighting to get situations to turn out in our favor and to get people to do what we want them to do. It’s an intense struggle, and one that most of us rarely win. Read more…

Facing the Same Things (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 43)

Facing the Same Things

1 Peter 5:8-9 (NLT)
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.

Trials are very real in our lives. Sometimes, it is a challenge to deal with those trials and endure those trials in a way that seems to bring benefit to our lives. We never see the end result at the beginning which is why far too many people give up on their faith. It is important to understand that as we endure difficulties and trouble in life, our enemy is not God; it is the devil. Read more…

Jesus Knows How You Feel (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 19)

Jesus Knows How You Feel

Hebrews 2:18 (NLT)
Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.

Jesus Christ came to earth in the form of a human so we could reconcile our fears, frustrations, and feelings with Him. Jesus is merciful and faithful to us because He has been through what we’re going through. God ensured that Christ could side with our feelings so we would never have to go through life on our own.
