Faith, at its essence, must be tested. If it is not tested, it cannot be called faith because it will be unknown what it can stand against. This means that at times, we must be broken. We must know what it is like to wrestle and battle with external and internal forces. We must understand what it means to experience pain, suffering, and heartbreak. These experiences, that if we had the power to do so, we would simply bypass in life, are meant to build our faith.

What’s Underneath Those Super Bad Days (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 310)

whats-underneath-those-super-bad-days

“We all have bad days, but one thing is true: no cloud is so dark that the sun can’t shine through.”
— Miranda Kerr

There’s a part of all of us that craves for every day to be the same. We dream about the perfect Mondays and the not-so-hump Wednesdays. We wish each day was filled with no problems, no headaches, no tired feet, no surprise emergencies. Nothing but bliss. Read more…

Faith Is Not a Token for the Merry-Go-Round (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 306)

James 2:24 (NLT)
So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.

It is taught in many churches that God rewards believers according to the level of their faith. This may be true when you initially enter into the family of God by receiving Jesus into your heart. However, some religious leaders take this idea too far. Faith is not to be equated with material possessions, power, fame, or wealth. We do not receive anything for our faith. It is not a token for the merry-go-round of the choicest bounty and blessings. Faith is the opportunity for God to work in our lives and become real to us. Read more…

Test Your Faith (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 146)

Test Your Faith

1 Thessalonians 5:21 (NLT)
But test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.

Many people think that when one places his or her faith in Jesus Christ, they are believing blindly. “Blind faith” is a false notion in God’s world. Faith and intellect go hand in hand. God never called us to just believe every spiritual thing we hear. Instead, we are admonished to test what we hear against the backdrop of truth. Read more…

Jesus Knows How You Feel (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 19)

Jesus Knows How You Feel

Hebrews 2:18 (NLT)
Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.

Jesus Christ came to earth in the form of a human so we could reconcile our fears, frustrations, and feelings with Him. Jesus is merciful and faithful to us because He has been through what we’re going through. God ensured that Christ could side with our feelings so we would never have to go through life on our own.

Do You Feel God Is Distant? (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 6)

Do You Feel God Is Distant

Isaiah 8:17 (NLT)
I will wait for the Lord, who has turned away from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my hope in him.

It is easy to believe in God when things are going well — when food is on the table, bills are paid, family is healthy, and life is going good. But what happens when situations take a turn south? What do we do when God seems so far away from us?
