REST (Live. Pray. Hustle. 04/11/17) (Right-click to download)

Those who trust in the Lord find rest for their souls. And it’s not the kind of rest as if you were sleeping. It’s the kind of rest where you feel a deep comfort and presence even when you’re not in church or in your safe zone. It’s like walking through the shadows of death but fearing nothing. It doesn’t mean you won’t experience unrest; you will — we all do. It just means that perfect rest is available to us even in the midst of the inevitable unrest.

9 Reasons It’s Okay to Take a Break (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 357)

“Every person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
— Maya Angelou

Most of us work hard at what we do and we may push ourselves to the limit in order to build a company, brand a reputation, receive an award, or make money. Sometimes, however, we encounter serious problems physically, mentally, and even relationally because we aren’t making the best decisions. When that happens, everything seems to suffer.

As a person who aims to make some difference in the world, we don’t want to be seen as nonproductive or feel like we’re not doing enough. The result is that we work and work to the neglect of our health and our standards of excellence. Most important ideas come to us in quietness and a mind that is calm is one of our greatest weapons. Trusting For that Good Soulful Feeling (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 332)

Psalm 116:7 (NLT)
Let my soul be at rest again, for the Lord has been good to me.

When we talk and think about taking care of our physical bodies, we usually refer to exercise, dieting, good nutrition, regular check-ups at the doctor’s office, proper nutrition, and regular sleep. Without proper functioning in our physical bodies, it is unlikely that we will survive or thrive very long. All of these are good things to consider in order to grow and be physically strong and stable in our lives. Read more…

7 Clear Signs You Need To Take a Break (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 330)

“Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.”
— Ovid

If you have ever been through moments in your life here you felt like you just need a good long break, you likely were feeling to much stress due to a number of factors that affected your physical, emotional, and mental health. You probably didn’t feel like yourself, running on fumes or feeling like an empty shell. You may have thought to yourself that you need to do something about this stress before it kills you. Finding Meaning In Doing Nothing (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 316)

“Some folks can look so busy doing nothing that they seem indispensable.”
— Kim Hubbard

How many times have you told yourself that you are too busy? How often do you replace those busy moments with random activities? How many times do you actually do nothing at all?

I write in the affirmative on the first two questions and am not too sure why I asked the third one. Many people are just like this. We are busier than we’ve ever been. When we try to take a break from being busy, we fill that time with random activities like mindless TV watching, movie binging or internet surfing. We do this because we think that to do nothing is a sign of laziness and we never want to be in that category.

3 Novel Signs You’re Doing Just Fine (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 147)

3 Novel Signs You’re Doing Just Fine

“There is virtue in work and there is virtue in rest. Use both and overlook neither.”
— Alan Cohen

Work and play are two sides of the same coin. Both have to be used sparingly but not in equal measures. By nature, we know that we should work more than we play and in many cases, we do that well. But too much work and too little play indeed makes Jack a dull boy and Susan an equally as boring girl. Work and play is an equation of both/and, not either/or. You need both in your life to be successful and balanced. If you have them, you are doing just fine.  Read more…

3 Explicit Signs You’re Moving Forward (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 121)

3 Explicit Signs You’re Moving Forward

“A little nonsense now and then, is cherished by the wisest men.”
— Roald Dahl

Every little bit of growth is a little bit more progress. Sometimes we grow in spurts, by leaps and bounds. At other times, we grow in plateau mode, centimeter by centimeter. Can you see people walking the streets while flying 30,000 feet in the air? Not really. Plateaued growth is a lot like this. You can’t see it, but it’s there. How does an oak tree become an oak tree? Little by little. You can’t see an oak tree grow, but it does. Every little seed, every little root, every bit of water, every bit of sunshine, every little bit of everything contributes to its growth. And then one day, out of nowhere, the little seed becomes a giant oak tree. You have to keep growing. That’s what you have to do. And that’s how you make progress.  Read more…
