Grace that Gives

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”

For many believers, when the pastor gets up to talk about giving on Sunday morning, he gets an automatic tune-out from most of the audience. We get uptight when it comes to giving because giving requires something of us. It measures our understanding of grace and reveals where our hearts are in response to God’s grace in our lives. Treasures Above

Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.

Adrian Rogers tells the story of a man who did something distinctly different with his household trash. Instead of bagging it up and setting it on the curb like his neighbors, he placed it in a box enclosed in nice wrapping paper. Without exception, someone would drive by this man’s house and pick up the nicely wrapped boxes. The man would watch from a window in his house as people were fooled by the external beauty of the internal trash.
