We All Face Challenges but Some of Us Are Finding Our Fire: A Message on Perseverance (Soul. Musings. 02/07/17)

Irish poet and novelist Oscar Wilde so accurately said some time ago, “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”

Everyone you meet, whether they admit it or not, is fighting a very difficult battle, striving to overcome a challenge, problem, or hardship. While some of us choose to settle into the struggle and allow it to control us, others of us choose to dig in, deeper and deeper. Read more…

Faith is a prerequisite for perseverance. No, seriously, you have to believe that you’re headed in the right direction. And you’re not always going to feel like you are. When everything seems to be caving in at once and as they say, if it’s not one thing, it’s another, you’re going to rethink whether you’re making the right decisions. But external events do not dictate future success. Very often, the worst becomes before the best. You won’t reach the clearing until you pass through the forest.

The Labyrinth of Life (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 316)

James 5:11 (NLT)
We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

Life is a vast labyrinth of twists and turns, starts and stops, ups and down, storms and clear passages. All of us no matter who we are or what we have are called to pass through this way. At every turn is the opportunity to make a choice. Some of the choices we make will be good while others inevitably will be bad. Good choices will end in good results while bad choices will end in certain pain or suffering. Read more…

Why You Should Never Give Up (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 302)

“When things go wrong, don’t go with them.”
— Elvis Presley

The one main reason so many people don’t reach their goals, never realize their dreams, don’t get what they want, and don’t get to where they want to go is because they give up too soon. And let’s face it, there are probably one or two or several things we have given up on at one point or another in our lives. The reason we give up isn’t nearly as important as the fact that we just give up.

Sitzfleisch (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 249)

“Stubbornly persist, and you will find that the limits of your stubbornness go well beyond the stubbornness of your limits.”
— Robert Brault

Persistence and perseverance are often used interchangeably. While they are very similar in many ways, there are a few small differences that can change how you live your life. Persistence will tell you when you’re illogically pursuing something that is already a lost cause. Perseverance, on the other hand, will keep you calm and steady pursuing a goal that is meaningful. Help From Above (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 130)

Help From Above

Psalm 121:1-2 (NLT)
I look up to the mountains—does my help come from there? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!

We need help! There are many times we may feel as though we can’t do what God has called us to do. We may feel like we don’t have enough talent, enough strength, or enough qualifications. There is a lot of truth to these feelings. Whatever God has called you to do, there is no way possible you can do it without Him. Read more…
