Every difficulty has a lesson embedded in it. It isn’t always that we’ve made a mistake or done something wrong. Sometimes, it’s because we’re on the right path and headed in the right direction but we need to endure a test of strength to see what we’re really made of. Reaching that obstacle places us at a point of decision. And it is the decisions that we make in the valley of difficulty that tend to teach us the most important lessons.

Give Great Effort to Pursuing Good Goals (Vita. Consilio. 01.11.17)

When I was a child, one of my uncles showed me how to ride a bike. He thought it would be a cool idea to test my skills out on the gravel and dirt roads between his house and my grandmother’s house. I can’t say I was good at it, but it was fun after I got the hang of it.

One of the things he told me about bike riding is that you can’t focus on the obstacles. Every little rock or piece of glass in the road isn’t going to puncture your wheels. You have to stay focused on where you’re going, not what you’re trying to avoid. Read more…

Ask For the Help You Need (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 352)

“The only mistake you can make is not asking for help.”
— Sandeep Jauhar

Asking for help is quite the obstacle for many of us who are naturally independent and tend to be self-reliant. It seems to be a common denominator with the independent minded that struggle with and even suffer from our inability to ask for help. We are good, even great, at helping others and even telling other people, “if you need help, just ask me. I’m always willing to help.” But we don’t follow our own advice in reverse. We falsely think that because we can do one or two things extremely well that we can do all things extremely well and that we don’t need help. Nothing could be further from the truth. Read more…

Highly Creative People Do These 4 Things (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 349)

“Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.”
— Dee Hock

Young children are often divided into two categories: creative types and not-so creative types. Many times, this differentiation comes from one’s experiences in childhood. Artistic children who are nimble with drawing or music often get the “creative” label. Those whose minds revolve around logic are not placed in the creative boat. But being creative really has nothing to do with labels. Everyone — artistical or logical — has the capacity to nurture creativity. Read more…

7 Ways To Shift Your Focus (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 344)

“I don’t care how much power, brilliance or energy you have, if you don’t harness it and focus it on a specific target, and hold it there you’re never going to accomplish as much as your ability warrants.”
— Zig Ziglar

The story is told of an old horse whose farmer wanted to get rid of him because he was no longer useful on the farm. The farmer put the horse into a wide open pit and attempted to bury him under the dirt.

The farmer and his farmhands dumped bucket after bucket of dirt on the horse. The horse, however, didn’t want to die because he was the closest friend of the farmer’s young daughter who was blind. The horse was intent on staying alive. Read more…

Moving Mount Everest (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 286)

Mark 11:22-23 (NLT)
Then Jesus said to the disciples, Have faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.

‘Faith’ is often thrown around in some religious circles as a magic potion for getting everything you want in life. It’s not a magic potion and shouldn’t be touted as such. But having faith does give you the assurance that your prayers have been heard and each day you live, there is the anticipation of a miracle just around the corner. Read more…
