Resentment Only Destroys You (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 282)

resentment-only-destroys-you

Job 5:2 (NLT)
Surely resentment destroys the fool, and jealousy kills the simple.

Resentment is a potent mix of anger, fear, and disappointment. Many times, we allow resentment to grow and fester in our lives because we replay an unkind word or hurt feeling over in our minds and find it hard to forgive the person or situation. We hold on to things that only cause us unspoken pain and undue stress. Some of us grew up being told it is okay to express our hurt and anger. And in some regard, it is healthy to do so, but holding on to those feelings only hurts us. Read more…

Turn On the Grace (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 255)

turn-on-the-grace

Ephesians 4:1 (NLT)
Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.

You need to know something in this life. You are never ever alone. You do not have to bear the burdens of the world in your own strength. You are valued, loved, and heard by God. God loves you — always has and always will. Nothing that you do or that happens in your life will keep God back from loving you and watching over you. Nothing can separate you from his love because it is through grace that he extends his love and peace to us. Read more…

3 Simple Signs You’re Doing Just Fine (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 148)

3 Simple Signs You’re Doing Just Fine

“Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.”
— Joshua J. Marine

Life isn’t just about living. It’s more about never giving up, overcoming challenges, and rising above obstacles to get to where you want to go. You don’t have to have everything. You do need to possess some things — determination, desire, perspective, and the will to win. When we cease trying to live life, we can really live it. And we have a pretty good time doing so.  Read more…

Get a Grip on Life (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 57)

Get a Grip on Life

“The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.”
— Molière

Nobody sets a goal to fail in life, get sick, or lose their job. Failure is not something we plan for. But it inevitably happens — sometimes one after another, and other times all at once. There are two paths we can take when life knocks us back on our heels. First, we can choose to see the negative situation for what it is — negative, and then sit back and do nothing. Or, we can choose to learn the lessons we need to learn and actively, intentionally improve our lives.  Read more…

God sometimes takes away things and people we never thought we would lose to replace them with things and people we never thought we would have.

10 Ways to Reduce Stress during the Holidays

For some people, the holidays are a fun time of the year filled with good food, shopping, gifting, traveling and getting together with friends and family. For other people, the holidays are a dreaded time filled with family disputes, remembering past losses, depression, stress, and unwanted financial pressures. For most of us, however, the holidays are filled with a little bit of both ends of the spectrum and a little bit of everything else thrown in. No matter what you do for the holidays, here are some tips you can use to not only get through this time, but get through it with peace, good will, and joy. Read more…

Real Hope for Really Hopeless Times

In these difficult times in which we live, it is quite easy to feel as though there is no hope. The Middle East is a constant lightning rod of violence and fear. The governments and economies of the world are unstable and insecure. Third world countries struggle to feed their citizens. Marriages and families are being torn apart by divorce and separation. Innocent young children and adults are senselessly being gunned down everyday. Babies are mercilessly being aborted. Many homes are facing foreclosure. Businesses, schools, churches, and homes are being destroyed by floods, tornadoes, and hurricanes. Young men and women are being killed while fighting for their country. Thousands are unemployed and many have lost their life’s savings. Many people are in physical prisons for crimes they have committed and many more are in mental and emotional prisons because they feel they have nowhere to turn. Many pastors and church leaders find themselves between a rock and a hard place, trying to deal with the current crises and the impending destruction of a nation and a world that has increasingly turned its back on God. It’s hard to see where real hope is with such a grim forecast of the world around us.
