You Are Chosen (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 365)

you-are-chosen

1 Peter 2:9 (NLT)
You are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

Remember when you were a young child in school, you wanted to be accepted by your peer group so you may have been willing to do almost anything to be a part of the in-group. Or maybe you remember trying out for the football team as a teenager and you felt bad when the picks got down to the last two and you still weren’t chosen. Read more…

Peace and Confident Hope (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 360)

peace-and-confident-hope

Ephesians 1:18 (NLT)
I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

We hear the word “peace” used at certain times throughout the year. World leaders use it during times of war and terror. Ordinary people use it on social media as an impetus for the rest of the world to stop and look for it. Activists use it as a benchmark, something for which we all should be working toward. Church ministers use the word “peace” especially during the Christmas season. After all, peace is the result of Christmas. We long to be at peace with God, with other people, and with ourselves. Light Poured In and Shining (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 356)

light-poured-in-and-shining

John 1:10-11 (NLT)
He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.

If this were a world of pure goodness, we probably would need the expectation of going to heaven. If this were a world of light, it would be fairly easy to recognize the truth of Jesus amidst the fiction. But this is a world that is neither good or filled with light. And we have contributed to that condition. This is a world wrought with evil and darkness into which Jesus came to be the true light. Read more…

Finding Meaning in the Midst of Pain (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 285)

1 Peter 4:19 (NLT)
So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.

When Jewish psychiatrist Viktor Frankl was arrested by the Nazis and taken to a concentration camp during World War II, almost everything was taken away from him. He was stripped of his family, possessions, property, and when he arrived at Auschwitz even his manuscript for “Man’s Search for Meaning” was taken away from him. When Frankl emerged from that harrowing ordeal, he reflected, “There is nothing in the world that would so effectively help one to survive even the worst conditions, as the knowledge that there is a meaning in one’s life.” Read more…

Let Your Light Shine (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 76)

Let Your Light Shine

Matthew 5:16 (NLT)
In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Let your light shine isn’t just a song we sing in Sunday School. It is a way to live out our Christian faith and reflect the love of God to the world. God has not called us to save anybody, but to point everyone we meet in the direction of the One who can save them. Read more…
