When We Don’t Understand, We Judge (People. Matter. 01.27.17)

We’re all guilty of passing judgment on someone else at one point or another. There are many reasons we judge people. Some of us judge because we don’t like other people. Some of us judge because we’re insecure or feel inadequate. Others of us judge because we are conscious of our differences or perceived differences. Others of us judge because we are envious and try to find something wrong with the other person. We use judging as a way to be in control, to feel like we’re superior, and to defend ourselves. Stop Being Judgmental — A Word on Heart Opening (People. Matter. 01.17.17)

PM011717

Dietrich Bonhoeffer is one of my all-time favorite theologians. If you’re not all into religion, though, he’s still one of the best writers on theological subjects and life in general. It turns out that he had something profound to say about being judgmental too… Read more…

Give Other People a Break (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 337)

James 3:17 (NLT)
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.

We live in a far from perfect world among far from perfect people with a far from perfect self. What most of us need to learn to give and to receive more than judgment, hatred and criticism is love, kindness, and mercy. It isn’t because we deserve it or because we feel other people deserve it but because that is what we need, and it is wise to give people what they need to get through life. Read more…

People Will Judge, Let God Defend (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 248)

People Will Judge, Let God Defend

Psalm 62:5-6 (NLT)
Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in him. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.

There are always going to be people in your life that no matter what you do they will misunderstand you, hate you, and seek to tear you down. It can be a friend, co-worker, or even a family member who will criticize you at every opportunity. Even when you think there is nothing wrong and your motives and intentions are good, there will be people who will judge you, talk about you negatively, and attack you in vile and evil ways. 3 Other Warning Signs About the Company You Keep (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 235)

3 Other Warning Signs About the Company You Keep

“Stop letting people who do so little for you control so much of your mind, feelings and emotions.”
— Will Smith

Negative thoughts hold the power to ruin us, but equally, do negative people. Sometimes it isn’t our thoughts that kill us, but the negative people we allow to get to us. When we should extract people from our lives, we don’t because we don’t want to hurt their feelings or break up long-standing relationships no matter how draining they are. But if we never make the trek across that bridge, we may never get to where we attempted to go in the first place, and that is how regret develops. Read more…

3 More Warning Signs About the Company You Keep

“Evil influence is like a nicotine patch, you cannot help but absorb what sticks to you.”
— E.A. Bucchianeri

It has been said that one can tell a lot about a person by the company he or she keeps. That is true to an extent. What is more difficult to tell is whether a person is generally good at his or her core or if that person is being influenced into a negative direction by external forces. The company we keep can be stepping stones or stumbling blocks. They can build us up or tear us apart. They can help us succeed or cause us to fail. Before you jump into a relationship with anybody in any arena of life, be sure you look out for any warning signs that many people avoid. Read more…
