Hold On Loosely

This title comes from a song by the same name. “Hold On Loosely” is a 1981 rock song by 38 Special. It was the first song to appear on their 4th studio album Wild-Eyed Southern Boys. The song talks about giving people space within a relationship and how not doing so can cause it to end in a breakup.

This is an important lesson not just for relationships, but for each of us in the general discourse of life. We have a tendency to hold on to things too tightly — careers, money, power, reputation, image, feelings, love, relationships, status, material possessions, and people. There comes certain times when some things must be only held loosely or let go completely. It’s not just about holding on to things; it’s also about control.
