Something Greater Is Coming (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 86)

Something Greater Is Coming

John 19:41-42 (NLT)
The place of crucifixion was near a garden, where there was a new tomb, never used before. …Since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there.

After Jesus’ earth-shattering death on the cross, it’s hard not to think of what was going through the minds of those closest to Jesus during His life. He had warned them ahead of time that He was going to die. But, since they were so used to His miracles, they at least had an inkling of hope and anticipation that His death was not the end. Easter Focus Passage: Matthew 28:16-20

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.

17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Easter Truth – WRAP-UP:

Over the past 40 days, we have gone through select passages of Scripture in both the Old and New Testaments to look further at the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and what that means for us today. We have been encouraged, humbled, inspired, sobered, and filled with joy at the prophecies and events that happened to make up what we call the Easter story. The wonderful thing about Easter and the days leading up to it is that it is a story that lives on for ages because Jesus Christ is alive and lives in the hearts of those who believe. The day of Easter may be over but the victory from Christ’s resurrection should be reflected in our lives every day. Read more…

Easter Focus Passage: John 19:38-42

38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.

39 He was accompanied by Nicodemus, the man who earlier had visited Jesus at night. Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds.

40 Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. This was in accordance with Jewish burial customs.

41 At the place where Jesus was crucified, there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had ever been laid.

42 Because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and since the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

Easter Truth – DAY THIRTY-NINE:

I’ve often wondered what happened on the day after Good Friday. Of course, we know Jesus lay in the tomb on this day. But after all the events of the previous day, it is hard not to think of the questions that may have run through the minds of Mary, John, and even the other disciples. For these people who had followed Jesus all the way to the cross, I am sure they felt deep down in the recesses of their soul, that this could not be it, that this could not be the end. Read more…
