Greater Faith Begins with Obedience (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 92)

Greater Faith Begins with Obedience

Hebrews 11:17 (NLT)
It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God’s promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac,

Have you ever desired to have greater faith? I have found myself wishing that my faith existed at a higher level. While most of us would like for God to just give us this enormous amount of faith at one time, it doesn’t work that way. Faith increases the more we choose the path of obedience. And not just obedience in some things, but in everything. Read more…

A God Who Tests, A Man Who Trusts, and a Moment of Truth (40 Days of Easter Truth #27)

Easter Focus Passage: Genesis 22:1-14

2 Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

3 Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.

12 “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.” Read more…

When God Is With You (Fearless Living #4)

Genesis 26:24, NIV
That night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.”

The Philistines envied Isaac and his wealth and prosperity. Before then, they had a love/hate relationship with Isaac’s father, Abraham. Isaac was the son God had promised to Abraham, and thus God’s blessings were passed down from Abraham to Isaac. It was nothing that Isaac did to incur God’s blessings in his life. But because his father was obedient and faithful, God blessed him. Read more…

Giving Up Our Will to God Brings Peace (Fearless Living #3)

Genesis 22:12, NLT
“Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”

The story of Abraham taking Isaac up to be sacrificed at the command of God is one of the scariest chapters in the Bible. Like a movie, we can picture Abraham and his son walking up the mountain whereupon Isaac is going to be sacrificed. As the climax hastens toward tragedy, we can imagine the tenseness of that moment when Isaac is bound to the wood, and Abraham raises the knife to kill him. Then, all of a sudden, our worse fears are not realized, and the story ends on a happy note. Read more…

Everything Is Impossible Until God Shows Up (Fearless Living #2)

Genesis 21:17-18, NIV
God heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and said to her, “What is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he lies there. Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great nation.”

Imagine being in a family with food to eat, water to drink, a roof over your head, and something to do, and then all of a sudden being kicked out to make it on your own. Imagine attempting a long trek through a desert land with very little supplies and wondering if you and your child will make it to a destination of which you are unsure. Imagine the fear and frustration of not being able to call on any human being for help when you need it most. Read more…
