Many times, we feel as though darkness is all around us. When things are bad enough, they seem to get even worse. When the pathway of our journey is dimly lit and we feel like there is no more hope, at that point, we must begin to anticipate something more. We have to begin to expect that something great is going to happen. The people who believed in Jesus had hope on the inside that something absolutely wonderful and amazing was about to happen.

HOPE (Live. Pray. Hustle. 02/09/17)

Hope is an element of adversity. Hope is not a feeling; it’s a way of thinking and being. If we want to be hopeful, we have to lean in, stop running, cease avoiding pain, and let ourselves struggle. We are told to “do what makes us happy”. We are rarely told to “do what makes us grow”. Growth is a byproduct of adversity and hope is a spinoff of traveling that journey.

Enthusiastic (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 366)

enthusiastic

Romans 12:11-12 (NLT)
Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.

Many people get excited about starting a new project or setting a new goal but never actually reach the finish line because they never learned how to maintain a disciplined work ethic and enthusiastic attitude over the long haul. In order to reach your long-term goals, you need long haul enthusiasm. You’ve got to have passion, heart, and inner fire for what you’re doing or you’ll never make it to the finish line. You will easily get discouraged and give up if there is nothing on the inside propelling you forward. Read more…

Peace and Confident Hope (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 360)

peace-and-confident-hope

Ephesians 1:18 (NLT)
I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

We hear the word “peace” used at certain times throughout the year. World leaders use it during times of war and terror. Ordinary people use it on social media as an impetus for the rest of the world to stop and look for it. Activists use it as a benchmark, something for which we all should be working toward. Church ministers use the word “peace” especially during the Christmas season. After all, peace is the result of Christmas. We long to be at peace with God, with other people, and with ourselves. 4 Things that Happen When We Create and Hold On to Expectations (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 351)

4-things-that-happen-when-we-create-and-hold-on-to-expectations

“Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.”
— Alexander Pope

Sometimes, we go through life allowing expectations to get the best of us and to hold us back from new and better opportunities that are often right around the corner if we get over disappointment and just keep going. We all experience the hurt and anguish that a dashed expectation can make us feel. But many times, expectations are nothing more than little games we play with ourselves because they are very misleading. Read more…

From Life to Life to Life (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 264)

from-life-to-life-to-life

Romans 8:11 (NLT)
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

For believers, life continues on. We have hope and assurance that we are going to live forever. Death is not the end of the story. In fact, there is no end to this brilliant story at all. We live and transition from life to life to life. One day, your lungs will cease to pump air and your heart will stop beating. But that will only be the end of your physical existence; your soul will live on. Read more…

Hopeful Expectations (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 262)

hopeful-expectations

Psalm 130:5 (NLT)
I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.

Isn’t it interesting how we tend to count on people more than God? We put faith in careers, relationships, activities, security, and even travel and have a good deal of expectation that people will do what they say, that we’ll arrive halfway around the world safe and sound, that we will be loved, and that our jobs are stable, and that our families are safe in the communities we live in.
