RISKS (Live. Pray. Hustle. 03/13/17)

We take risks with the expectancy that we will achieve a certain result. The odds are always equal parts negative and positive. There is no such thing as a safe risk. To risk anything is at its very core not to know what is going to happen. For many of us, the unknown is a very scary but unavoidable proposition. If we fail to go forward, we may never know what the outcome could be. If we know too much, we may never follow the path we were meant to take. There can be no growth, no progress, no achievement without risk.

HOPE (Live. Pray. Hustle. 02/09/17)

Hope is an element of adversity. Hope is not a feeling; it’s a way of thinking and being. If we want to be hopeful, we have to lean in, stop running, cease avoiding pain, and let ourselves struggle. We are told to “do what makes us happy”. We are rarely told to “do what makes us grow”. Growth is a byproduct of adversity and hope is a spinoff of traveling that journey.

There’s not enough time for you to learn all things before you start. Life will be over before that happens. Learn what you can. Then start. Keep learning. Keep working. Get as strong as you can. Push yourself out the nest. Start falling. Use those wings you’ve developed. You’ll be ready when you’re ready.

Every part of the human lifespan is an exercise in stretching. We don’t simply arrive at our fullest potential. We journey there. If we stayed in the same place, we’d never make progress. Growth rarely happens in our comfort zone. It happens along a trajectory of mountain highs, valley lows, and pit stops. It is the discomfort that pushes us to learn, to change, and to grow.

Follow the Process (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 348)

1 Timothy 4:15 (NLT)
Give your complete attention to these matters. Throw yourself into your tasks so that everyone will see your progress.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if perfection and instant transformation just washed over us as soon as we entered into new life in Jesus Christ? From that very moment onward, we wouldn’t have to worry about temptation or falling into sin, or renewing our minds daily or any of those things that are necessary in the believer’s life. We would be perfect and then there would really be no need for us to continue living on earth. Read more…

3 More Lessons You’re Better Off Learning Sooner than Later (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 307)

“Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you’re climbing it.”
— Andy Rooney

How often have you thought to yourself, I wish I had known this when I was 20 or I wish someone had told me this before I turned 30. There is a deep feeling inside all of us to know and to approach life with a sense of maturity, wisdom, and understanding. We know that our younger life was not as productive as it could have been and so we become aware of the fact that as we age, we must grow and improve — not just grow physically but mentally and emotionally, psychologically and spiritually. With this in mind, no matter what age you are, here are three more lessons we need to learn: Read more…

What Seeds Are You Planting? (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 293)

Genesis 1:11 (NLT)
Then God said, “Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came.” And that is what happened.

Literally everything we see around us started with a seed. Things don’t just happen all of a sudden. It starts with a tiny something and then goes through the process of growth and maturation. It is during the growing period that seeds eventually turn into fruit trees. But the growing stage is so slow that we hardly realize it is there. Read more…

You’re Not There Yet, Keep Growing (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 292)

Philippians 3:12 (NLT)
I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.

Wouldn’t it wonderful if we could say at some point in our lives that we have arrived? I mean we have gotten to that place of total achievement, complete fulfillment, and ultimate perfection. It’s that point in which we are no longer growing or striving for anything. Because, well, we have everything and have done everything that’s in our time and energy span to do. Read more…
