The Power of Motivation Is Limited (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 362)

“The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.”
— Arthur C. Clarke

Too often we think that the key to achieving our goals is being motivated. But motivation is very abstract. You can’t really catch it or grab hold of it and hang on to it. You can’t even force yourself into having it like you can with something like determination. It comes every once in a while. The rest of the time, it is up to you — your choices, your will, your self-discipline, your faith, and your persistence. Read more…

No Fear, Only Love (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 360)

“Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here.”
— Marianne Williamson

There are many things that we can be afraid of. There are also just as many reasons for us to love. Fear will never be completely eradicated on this side of heaven, but there is a chance that we can overwhelm it. Love, pure, unconditional love can put fear on the run.

The events of this life are real. War and terror, sickness and death, inequality and injustice are inevitabilities that we face and will continue to wrestle with. The psychology created by the harshness and brutality of this world makes fear all too real and love seems as unreal as a dream, even non-existent. Read more…

Don’t Be Afraid (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 358)

Luke 2:10 (NLT)
But the angel reassured them. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people.”

Throughout the Christmas story, four individuals had two things in common with each other. Joseph, Mary, Zechariah and the shepherds all were afraid or troubled and each time an angel came to them and told them not to be afraid. To the shepherds, the angel told them not to be afraid because of the promise of a Savior. To Mary, the angel told her not to be afraid because she was in God’s favor. To Joseph, the angel told him not to be afraid and instead to follow God’s divine plan for the Christ child’s birth. To Zechariah, the angel told him not to be afraid because his prayers for a child had been answered. Read more…

Hold the Hand that Guides You (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 323)

Psalm 23:3 (NLT)
He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

We face decisions every single day. Many of them are small ones that can easily be made without much thought. But throughout our lives, we will at times face decisions that are on a bigger scale and require much more time and thought. Often when we’re faced with these momentous moments, we allow fear to creep into our lives and many times, fear leads to stress and stress results in indecision. Read more…

God’s Got This (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 314)

Psalm 103:19 (NLT)
The Lord has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything.

Why do we sometimes get sad and disappointed when we fail or when things don’t go our way? It’s because we hate to lose. It’s never easy to lose a fight especially when you worked so hard and put all your time, effort, money, and talent into it to make it go right. But after the elections of 2016 that is how over half the nation is feeling right now. That feeling of being defeated is settling in and it is making people feel sad and scared. Read more…
