PERSEVERANCE (Live. Pray. Hustle. 02/03/17)
(Right-click to download)

Faith is a prerequisite for perseverance. No, seriously, you have to believe that you’re headed in the right direction. And you’re not always going to feel like you are. When everything seems to be caving in at once and as they say, if it’s not one thing, it’s another, you’re going to rethink whether you’re making the right decisions. But external events do not dictate future success. Very often, the worst becomes before the best. You won’t reach the clearing until you pass through the forest.

9 Reasons It’s Okay to Take a Break (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 357)

9-reasons-its-okay-to-take-a-break

“Every person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us.”
— Maya Angelou

Most of us work hard at what we do and we may push ourselves to the limit in order to build a company, brand a reputation, receive an award, or make money. Sometimes, however, we encounter serious problems physically, mentally, and even relationally because we aren’t making the best decisions. When that happens, everything seems to suffer.

As a person who aims to make some difference in the world, we don’t want to be seen as nonproductive or feel like we’re not doing enough. The result is that we work and work to the neglect of our health and our standards of excellence. Most important ideas come to us in quietness and a mind that is calm is one of our greatest weapons. 4 Things To Do When You’re Struggling To Decide (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 337)

“More choices in a limited time didn’t mean you could do everything; it meant you could do anything, so you probably did nothing, frozen with indecision.”
— Brent Weeks

Indecision is one of the most difficult places to be in. That space in between where you are and where you’re trying to go is like being in limbo. Limbo is worse than never leaving and never arriving. Limbo is getting stuck in the “in between”. Any possibility that might exist is almost completely erased when we get to the point where we can’t decide.

If the NSA snooped through your calendar, Evernotes, text messages, emails and online browsing history for the past year, what do you think they would find about your level of productivity and priorities? Did you check off on all your short-term and long-term goals? Or will they find a lot of things that are simply not complete or never started simply because you could not make a decision? Read more…

Why We Overthink and How to Stop (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 308)

why-we-overthink-and-how-to-stop

“If you believe that your thoughts originate inside your brain, do you also believe that television shows are made inside your television set?”
— Warren Ellis

Most of us do our best to think and be positive, but sometimes we allow ourselves to slip into negative ways of thinking and behaving that are detrimental to our lives and bottleneck our overall progress in life.

We might stress about past mistakes or failures. We may over-analyze normal experiences, encounters, and interactions with people we know very well. Occasionally, we read into things that aren’t really there. We tend to associate one bad experience with all of the other bad things that have happened in our lives. Read more…

You’ll Be Ready When You’re Ready (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 274)

“At the last moment she thought, I’m not ready. But she already knew the answer to that. Nobody was ever ready.”
— L.J. Smith

Are you ready? I can’t begin to count how many times I’ve have heard someone ask this question. Heck, I’ve even asked this question myself more times than I’d care to remember.

There’s a lot of pressure in the world to be ready. We go to school because we must be prepared for life. We get a job because we need experiences to be ready for any eventuality we face. Some of us have mentors because they are the role models we (or someone close to us) thinks we need. All of this is in an attempt to prepare us for something, to get us ready to launch. But getting ready to launch and launching are two very different things. Read more…

6 Real Ways We Fail at Progress (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 273)

6-real-ways-we-fail-at-progress

“Arriving at one point is the starting point to another.”
— John Dewey

Don’t let life discourage you. It will disappoint you at times, but don’t let it get it down. It has been said that every single person who is where they are right now had to begin where they were at some point in the not too distant past. The thing about progress is that it is always moving you further away from where you were and closer to where you want to people. If you allow yourself to get discouraged, you will begin to think motion alone is progress. Sitting and throwing your hands up is motion but it doesn’t get you any closer to your goal. Even if you fall down flat on your face, if you get back up, you’re still moving forward. The point is to get down the right path and keep moving down the right path and eventually, over time, you’ll make progress. Read more…

You Are How You Act (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 239)

You Are How You Act

“The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it.”
— Karl Marx

Sometimes life pushes you over. Other times it knocks you upside the head and sends you stumbling in a million different directions. But at other times, you knock you completely to the ground and dares you to get up. A good life is not one that consists of no problems. It is one that has learned how to persevere through challenges without complaining. Read more…
