Delays Ahead, Keep Going (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 345)

2 Chronicles 16:9a (NLT)
The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.

It has been said that nothing is certain in life but death and taxes. Permit me to add a third certainty: Delays. When God gives you a purpose and gives you power and grace to fulfill it, you can be certain that you will encounter delays, hindrances, impediments, detours, obstructions, holdups, and dead ends. The path to fulfilling your God-given purpose in the world will at times be tough and wearisome, arduous and painful but if you keep on going and don’t give up, it will eventually turn out the way God planned. The Godward Urging (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 322)

Psalm 27:8 (NLT)
My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.” And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”

Deep within all of our hearts is a longing to know and be known by the One who never forgets us and never ceases to love us. When we speak of being near to or far away from God, we are expressing in terms of language this thing that is very common to human relationships. Being close to or far from someone does not denote mere distance in location, but distance within the relationship. Read more…

Conscience Awareness (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 312)

Isaiah 30:21 (NLT)
Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go,” whether to the right or to the left.

God doesn’t always give us what we want as soon as we want it. He does, however, give us what we need when we need it most, whether we think we need it or not. All of us have a conscience and on that conscience is written the laws of God and the difference between what is good and what is bad. God gives us a conscience so that we can get a feel for when we are doing good and when we are going in the opposite direction. Read more…

Joy in Divine Will (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 295)

Psalm 40:8 (NLT)
I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.

God’s greatest desire is to live in and fill up the hearts of all people in the earth. That means he wants his commands to be front and center in our lives. God wants a handle on our hearts, access to our souls because when he does he is better able to guide us in the direction he wants us to go. He takes pleasure in our lives to the extent that we take pleasure in his will. Read more…

Clean Hearts and Good Spirits (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 270)

Psalm 51:10 (NLT)
Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.

God can create something new and beautiful out of a life and heart that is old and tattered. He’s been bringing things out of nothing and calling light into the dark since the very beginning of time. You’ve been created to live a new and brilliant life. Living such a life begins with allowing God to give you a new and pure heart. Read more…

One More Chance (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 245)

One More Chance

Acts 13:22 (NLT)
But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’

There are times in all of our lives when we fail badly and need deep forgiveness. God in his mercy still uses those who return to him. Like Jonah, we all need a second chance. For some of us, it’s a third, fourth, or even fifth chance. God isn’t like people. He waits patiently and longs for us to return to him. As humans we require second chances and God is willing to oblige. Read more…

I Won’t Be Shaken (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 232)

I Won’t Be Shaken

Psalm 16:8 (NLT)
I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.

There are some things in this world that can shake us to our core if we let them. Pain, suffering, and heartbreak all threaten to throw us off the path God has set for our lives. War, terror, and disasters of all kinds surround us and attempt to impede our spiritual progress and undermine our faith. For some people, it is hard to believe that God is nearby even in these times. Read more…

Overnight Change Is a Delusion (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 228)

Overnight Change Is a Delusion

Ephesians 4:24 (NLT)
Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Too many people believe that they can fix things overnight or that God will give them everything they want overnight. Some even expect for people to change overnight. But it doesn’t work that. Overnight change is a delusion. God helps us to grow into the people he wants us to be in time, not by the switch of light. Read more…
