Attitude has a powerful impact upon the way we communicate and what the people we communicate with derive from our communication. Before you say a word out of your mouth, the attitude you display speaks volumes as to the kind of person you are. People often say the right words but with the wrong attitude. A positive message with a negative attitude is counterproductive.

5 Ways to Know Your Relationship Will Fail (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 355)

5-ways-to-know-your-relationship-will-fail

“Relationships-of all kinds-are like sand held in your hand. Held loosely, with an open hand, the sand remains where it is. The minute you close your hand and squeeze tightly to hold on, the sand trickles through your fingers. You may hold onto some of it, but most will be spilled. A relationship is like that. Held loosely, with respect and freedom for the other person, it is likely to remain intact. But hold too tightly, too possessively, and the relationship slips away and is lost.”
— Kaleel Jamison

We all want our relationships to be successful. But some traits and attitudes will put you on the fast track to failure. If you understand what some of those are early in life, you will be able to develop and maintain meaningful and sincere relationships at every stage of life.

If it is done in the right way, relationships are very difficult. It has great rewards as well as equally great risks. Sometimes, you have to put yourself on the line and at other times, the other person has to put himself on the line. In the give and take, you want to make sure both are done equitably. Read more…

Start A Continuous Conversation (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 259)

Psalm 116:1-2 (NLT)
I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!

As believers, we grow in our relationship with God when we take the time to talk to him and to listen for him to speak to us. A relationship with God is similar to a relationship with any other human being. In order for the relationship to grow, mature, and be mutually beneficial, both parties must communicate with each other on a daily basis. And communication is not just talking, but also listening with the ears and with the heart. Read more…

3 More Ways We Hinder Our Own Growth (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 252)

3-more-ways-we-hinder-our-own-growth

“One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again.”
— Abraham Maslow

The opportunity to grow is always before us. But not everyone takes the chance on an opportunity when it presents itself. When we don’t choose to grow (and growth is a choice), we miss out on important parts of our lives in which we wouldn’t otherwise improve. Nothing grows in isolation. Likewise, people don’t grow alone. Plants need rain and sunshine. And I guess it could be said that people too need pain and pleasure in order to obtain a balance to life that keeps us overcoming and empowered at the same time. We grow in community. In the daily discourse of life — the pains, the problems, and the pleasures — we become a better version of ourselves and create opportunities to fulfill our dreams. Read more…

3 Whole Signs You’re Doing Just Fine (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 153)

3 Whole Signs You’re Doing Just Fine

“Blessed is he who expects nothing, for he shall never be disappointed.”
— Alexander Pope

There are few things in the world that consist of deep and consistent beauty. The first I think is the smile of a baby. The second I think is the innocent mischievousness of a little child. The third I think is a soul that never ceases to be on fire. If you have seen the first two and possess the last, you are doing just fine in life.  Read more…

3 Complete Signs You’re Moving Forward (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 126)

3 Complete Signs You’re Moving Forward

“If you don’t live a life in service of a greater good, you’ve gotta at least die a death in service of a greater good, you know?”
— John Green

Like air, water, and food, growth is a fundamental human need. We consider something to be developmentally wrong when a young child is not progressing physically at certain stages. Likewise, there can be a stunting of growth when no real progress is being made over a significant period of time. Progress is growth. Growth is progress. The two go together. One cannot exist without the other. If you are moving forward, it means you are seeing real results and are taking action steps toward your goals.  Read more…

You’re Not a Good Leader If…

1. You don’t have a vision. If you don’t know where you’re going, then you are not equipped to lead. Vision is what gets people around you motivated and inspired. Low vision, fickle vision, linear vision, or no vision will take you straight to the exit of failure. You must be able to see clearly what your goals are and envision how you will get them accomplished.
