It Just Doesn’t Make Sense (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 260)

Hebrews 11:7a (NLT)
It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before.

Faith is both trust and obedience even if the command we’re given doesn’t make sense. Obedience begins with trust and trust is a result of our faith. As believers, the more we believe God, the more we will trust him and willingly obey what he tells us. The commands given throughout scripture are not to hurt us, but to help us live the kind of life that God designed for his children to live. Read more…

Sticking It Out (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 224)

Sticking It Out

1 Corinthians 12:27 (NLT)
All of you together are Christ’s body, and each of you is a part of it.

We live in a commitment phobic society. Our lack of commitment leads many people to leave their jobs, their families, their responsibilities, and even God. Some of us can’t stay committed to things we tell ourselves. When the walls that we have built for ourselves begin to crumble, we tend to crumble with it instead of fighting to hold it up. Promises Veiled by Darkness (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 85)

Promises Veiled by Darkness

John 19:30 (NLT)
When Jesus had tasted it [a sponge of sour wine], he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Good Friday is the day the world came to a screeching halt. Someone had entered the world as the highly anticipated Messiah and had exited in a horrifying, back-breaking, crushing death. Some in the world had probably seen crucifixions before. But none had been seen quite like this one. The darkness that enclosed this day was mild compared to the promises that Jesus had coming. The 7 Most Powerful Words – He Is Not Here; He Has Risen (40 Days of Easter Truth #40)

Easter Focus Passage: Matthew 28:1-8

1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.

3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.

4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.

Easter Truth – DAY FORTY:

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is one of the most powerful events in all of history. It is the link by which sinful man can enter the presence of the Holy God. The resurrection bears great significance to us as Christians for if the resurrection had never happened, then our living and our faith would be in vain. The endpoint of our belief is in the fact that Jesus died, was buried, and then rose from the dead to sit on the right hand of God the Father. Read more…

Is There Enough Evidence to Convict You for Being a Christian? (40 Days of Easter Truth #19)

Easter Focus Passage: 1 Peter 4:12-16

12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.

13 But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.

14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.

16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. Read more…
