8 Ways To Keep Your Feet On the Ground When Everything Else Is Out of Control (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 364)

8-ways-to-keep-your-feet-on-the-ground-when-everything-else-is-out-of-control

“You don’t have to control your thoughts; you just have to stop letting them control you.”
— Dan Millman

Several studies point to the fact that we are living in one of the most stressed and overworked generations. More people are busier than ever and sometimes feel as though they are not getting any closer to their goals. When everything seems to be spinning out of control, sticking to goals and not yielding to stress can feel like a tall order.

However, it really is possible to not let the stress and pressure of everyday life get to us. We can handle things, even the very hard stuff by developing habits that keep our feet on the ground and our mind focused on the big picture. Here are 8 ways to do that: Read more…

Turning Points as Stepping Stones (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 356)

turning-points-as-stepping-stones

“Sometimes the course of our lives depends on what we do or don’t do in a few seconds, a heartbeat, when we either seize the opportunity, or just miss it. Miss the moment and you never get a chance again.”
— Aidan Chambers

Every challenge we encounter and every adversity that we face comes with the opportunity to make a decision. It is as if we arrive at a fork in the road and have to stop in order to make sure we take the right path. Sometimes, we tend to rush through difficult times without giving any thought to what it might be trying to teach us.

Each of us will inevitably face such times. They are the moments of life that determine whether we stay the same or make the changes. Whether the experience is happy or unhappy or whether it pertains to our personal or professional lives, these are moments that regulate our thinking and often lead us to make small decisions that open the door to huge possibilities. Doing Right Leads to Happiness (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 340)

Philippians 1:18 (NLT)
But that doesn’t matter. Whether their motives are false or genuine, the message about Christ is being preached either way, so I rejoice. And I will continue to rejoice.

Happiness is not determined by what other people do or say, whether you are treated good or ill, whether you are criticized or talked about, whether people are working with you or against you. The motives, intentions, and actions of other people cannot be the deciding factor in whether you have a happy life. If you allow people to determine your happiness or look to them as the source of your happiness, you will be disappointed over and over again. Read more…

Pass the Forgiveness (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 321)

pass-the-forgiveness

Colossians 3:13 (NLT)
Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

Isn’t it interesting how we are quick to ascribe positive intent to our own actions, motives, and thoughts but equally as quick to ascribe negative intent to the actions, motives, and thoughts of someone else. We have a tendency to make room for our own faults and failures but very little room to make the same allowance for other people who potentially do some of the same things. Read more…

The Labyrinth of Life (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 316)

the-labyrinth-of-life

James 5:11 (NLT)
We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

Life is a vast labyrinth of twists and turns, starts and stops, ups and down, storms and clear passages. All of us no matter who we are or what we have are called to pass through this way. At every turn is the opportunity to make a choice. Some of the choices we make will be good while others inevitably will be bad. Good choices will end in good results while bad choices will end in certain pain or suffering. Read more…

Stop Holding On to Things and People You Should Let Go (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 292)

(30 Things To Stop Spending Time On If You Want to Be Successful #24)

“Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go.”
— Herman Hesse

Learning to let go of people who are no longer good for you and situations that no longer benefit you is equally as important as knowing when to hold on to the people who are good for you and stay in situations that benefit you. It’s best to learn this lesson now rather than later. But for some of us, we don’t realize we’re playing with fire until we start to burn. Read more…
