The battle against selfishness is one of the greatest battles we will ever fight. We want for someone else to give to us, to serve us, to help us, to choose us. We want to get the massages — everyone does. Read more…

Daniella Whyte Releases New Book, Thanks and Yes: 365 Days of Coffee Drinking and Grateful Living

thanksandyescoversites-550x275
Thanks and Yes isn’t as much a book about giving thanks as it is about living thankfully. Not the words of thanks which are cheap and usually insincere, but the attitudes and the actions, the thoughts and the behaviors, the intentions and the perceptions. This type of gratitude is what helps us to determine whether we look and live on the bright side of every encounter in life. Read more…

All Of Me (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 319)

all-of-me

Psalm 25:1 (NLT)
O Lord, I give my life to you.

Control and surrender are on opposite ends of the see-saw for the children of God. On one side and in one part of us, we want to set our agendas, push our plans and wills through, dominate what goes on in our lives, and command ourselves. On the other side of us, the believing side, we want to give everything about us to the only Person who is really concerned about it. We want him to regulate and dominate and to do that we have to surrender. Read more…

Faith Is Not a Token for the Merry-Go-Round (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 306)

James 2:24 (NLT)
So you see, we are shown to be right with God by what we do, not by faith alone.

It is taught in many churches that God rewards believers according to the level of their faith. This may be true when you initially enter into the family of God by receiving Jesus into your heart. However, some religious leaders take this idea too far. Faith is not to be equated with material possessions, power, fame, or wealth. We do not receive anything for our faith. It is not a token for the merry-go-round of the choicest bounty and blessings. Faith is the opportunity for God to work in our lives and become real to us. Read more…

Generosity in Exchange for Happiness (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 296)

Acts 20:35b (NLT)
You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’

How do you define happiness? Some people define happiness by how much money they have, how big their house is, or the make and model of their car. Other people think of happiness in terms of how many friends they have or their social standing in the community. Still other people determine their level of happiness by the weather, their feelings, or what someone said or didn’t say to them or about them. Read more…

Kissing the Day Goodbye (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 294)

kissing-the-day-goodbye

Psalm 126:5-6 (NLT)
Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.

Why do farmers continue to plant seeds and willingly wait over a long period of time to reap a harvest? Planting is really a thankless job largely because there is no immediate proof or evidence that anything good will come out of the effort. But that’s the thing about planting: Farmers sow in faith expecting to reap a harvest. Read more…

It Just Doesn’t Make Sense (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 260)

it-just-doesnt-make-sense

Hebrews 11:7a (NLT)
It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before.

Faith is both trust and obedience even if the command we’re given doesn’t make sense. Obedience begins with trust and trust is a result of our faith. As believers, the more we believe God, the more we will trust him and willingly obey what he tells us. The commands given throughout scripture are not to hurt us, but to help us live the kind of life that God designed for his children to live. Read more…
