We’re Are In the Family (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 344)

Ephesians 1:5 (NLT)
God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

One human need that is common throughout all of humanity is the desire to belong. All people want to belong to a family because it means we are loved, valued, and worthy. Even God wanted more than a physical world with plants and animals. He wanted people. He didn’t want to be alone. And that is why He created and continues to create boys and girls, men and women so that He can have the biggest family possible. The main reason we exist is to join God’s heavenly family. Ending a Damaging Cycle of Pleasing Others (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 240)

Ending a Damaging Cycle of Pleasing Others

“If you are busy pleasing everyone, you are not being true to yourself.”
— Jocelyn Murray

Everyone deserves to be loved, safe, appreciated, and accepted. Having a sense of belonging has long been determined to be a basic human need. It is natural and normal for our existence. In an effort to have these needs satisfied, many people resort to pleasing other people. People pleasing may seem to work on the surface but really behind the scenes it is a waste of time. Three Certainties (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 71)

Three Certainties

1 John 4:4 (NLT)
But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.

There are few things we can be certain of in this world. We can’t be sure we’ll be alive to see tomorrow or that our loved ones will make it to the new year. We can be definite that accidents won’t happen or massive storm systems will come our way. Certainty of anything tangible is not a promise in the world or in life. Read more…

Stand Out (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 22)

Stand Out

“Fitting in is the greatest barrier to belonging.”
— Brene Brown

A lot of people — and I mean a LOT — spend their entire lives trying to fit in with certain groups. They are looking for meaning — some kind of rhyme and rhythm to their existence. But, more deeply, they are looking to belong. It’s a never ending pursuit of finding a special place with a special person or group of people.

Belonging to the Good Shepherd

Belonging to the Good Shepherd

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing” (Psalms 23:1, NIV).

We all want to belong to something or to someone. Having a sense of belonging is one of the basic needs of all human beings and is considered to be a major source of human motivation. We long to be loved, accepted, and appreciated for who we are. When we are a part of something, such as a family, we feel safe and have or are able to get whatever we need. Read more…

The Gold In the Box

The Gold In the Box

The story was once told of a beggar who had been sitting on the side of a road for many years. One day, a passerby walked up to him and the beggar shook a cup calling, “Spare me some change.”

“I don’t have anything to give you,” the man replied. Feeling dejected by the answer, the beggar turned away mumbling something to himself.

The passerby was getting ready to walk away when he turned back around and asked, “By the way, what is that you’re sitting on? Read more…
