Surf the Waves, Don’t Let the Waves Carry You (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 366)

surf-the-waves-dont-let-the-waves-carry-you

“The only thing a person can ever really do is keep moving forward. Take that big leap forward without hesitation, without once looking back. Simply forget the past and forge toward the future.”
— Alyson Noel

In many respects, it is the habits we form that make us or break us. Success or failure fully depends on what we choose to do or not do in order to move forward. Success is subjectively determined, but it is not a matter of following a formula or heeding to a set routine.

The choices we make determine what kind of life we live. You can be a surfer and ride the waves on your own volition and take yourself where you want to go. Or you can let the waves carry you wherever they want and that’s usually going to be somewhere you wouldn’t go yourself. Read more…

Those Are Your Thoughts and Plans, Not Mine (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 346)

those-are-your-thoughts-and-plans-not-mine

Isaiah 55:8 (NLT)
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.”

God is loving, kindhearted, merciful, gracious, long-suffering, and everlasting. God comforts those who are grieving, heals those who are sick, and answers those who pray. God promises that if you knock, the door will be opened; if you look for something, you will find it; and if you ask, you will receive. All of us have needs and desires that we oftentimes try to get met in our own way and time. But God is much wiser than His creation and He cannot be manipulated, tried, controlled, exploited, or deceived. He fulfills His promises to us in His will and way and time. Read more…

In the Waiting Room (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 331)

in-the-waiting-room

Hebrews 6:15 (NLT)
Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised.

When family and friends gather at the hospital for the birth of a child, what is the scariest part? The exciting part is that a new bundle of joy is on the way. But the scary part is waiting, in the waiting room, expectantly hopeful and shaking with nerves. And a large part of being a child of God is exactly like that — standing, sitting, on our knees waiting hopefully, and sometimes not as patiently as we should. Read more…

Friend of God (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 310)

friend-of-god

James 2:23 (NLT)
Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith. He was even called the friend of God.

We all have friends. Some of them are fair weathered friends. Others are long distance friends. Still others are ride or die friends. The latter kind are with us until the end. They don’t stop loving us, knowing up, challenging us, or helping us when we need it. God desires for us to be his friend and he promises to be this always there, forever friend to us as well. Hopeful Expectations (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 262)

hopeful-expectations

Psalm 130:5 (NLT)
I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.

Isn’t it interesting how we tend to count on people more than God? We put faith in careers, relationships, activities, security, and even travel and have a good deal of expectation that people will do what they say, that we’ll arrive halfway around the world safe and sound, that we will be loved, and that our jobs are stable, and that our families are safe in the communities we live in. You Are How You Act (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 239)

You Are How You Act

“The philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways. The point, however, is to change it.”
— Karl Marx

Sometimes life pushes you over. Other times it knocks you upside the head and sends you stumbling in a million different directions. But at other times, you knock you completely to the ground and dares you to get up. A good life is not one that consists of no problems. It is one that has learned how to persevere through challenges without complaining. Read more…

I Won’t Be Shaken (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 232)

I Won’t Be Shaken

Psalm 16:8 (NLT)
I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.

There are some things in this world that can shake us to our core if we let them. Pain, suffering, and heartbreak all threaten to throw us off the path God has set for our lives. War, terror, and disasters of all kinds surround us and attempt to impede our spiritual progress and undermine our faith. For some people, it is hard to believe that God is nearby even in these times. Read more…
