When We Don’t Understand, We Judge (People. Matter. 01.27.17)

We’re all guilty of passing judgment on someone else at one point or another. There are many reasons we judge people. Some of us judge because we don’t like other people. Some of us judge because we’re insecure or feel inadequate. Others of us judge because we are conscious of our differences or perceived differences. Others of us judge because we are envious and try to find something wrong with the other person. We use judging as a way to be in control, to feel like we’re superior, and to defend ourselves. Why We Overthink and How to Stop (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 308)

why-we-overthink-and-how-to-stop

“If you believe that your thoughts originate inside your brain, do you also believe that television shows are made inside your television set?”
— Warren Ellis

Most of us do our best to think and be positive, but sometimes we allow ourselves to slip into negative ways of thinking and behaving that are detrimental to our lives and bottleneck our overall progress in life.

We might stress about past mistakes or failures. We may over-analyze normal experiences, encounters, and interactions with people we know very well. Occasionally, we read into things that aren’t really there. We tend to associate one bad experience with all of the other bad things that have happened in our lives. Read more…

Life would be worthless if we sat around doing nothing at all to make a difference in the place we have been blessed to occupy. But sometimes in our attempt to achieve, we place too many expectations on ourselves and fail in our pursuit. We allow our expectations to set us up for disappointment. Most of these expectations are self-imposed thus leaving us with the choice to carry them as weights or release ourselves from their chains. Imagination can be a dangerous thing. When we stop imagining ourselves to be who we are not, we make room to learn, grow, and achieve. Read more…

3 New Ways We Sabotage Ourselves (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 169)

3 New Ways We Sabotage Ourselves

“Your value lies not in status or title, but in the roots of your character and depth of your compassion.”
— Mollie Marti

Many times, it isn’t any external force that is holding us back. It isn’t the voices of other people or doors that were slammed in our face or anything like that. Many times, it’s the voice in our head, our own actions (or inactions), our own decisions, our own thoughts that put the hammer down on things. It’s all us. And when we wrap our minds around that fact, we realize we have more power to change our situations than we ever realized. Read more…
