20 Things To Learn When You’re Under 30 (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 331)

“The difference between school and life? In school, you’re taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you’re given a test that teaches you a lesson.”
— Tom Bodett

When you’re a child, your parents pretty much stick up for you, comfort you in hard times, and cover for you when you get into the slightest messes. When you’re a teenager, your friends do the same things for you and you for them. But when you’re 20-something, you really learn how difficult things can be. You know at this time in your life, you need to be mature because you’re not a kid or a teenager anymore — you’re an adult. Read more…

A Letter To My 50-Year-Old Self: On Grace and Getting Older (365 Days of Spirited Living — DAY 328)

“The answer to old age is to keep one’s mind busy and to go on with one’s life as if it were interminable.”
— Leon Edel

Today, I turned a different age somewhere along the continuum of the roaring twenties. I don’t feel any older than I did yesterday and in some ways, I am quite humbled by the life I’ve been privileged to live with its many lessons and experiences, its mountaintops and valleys and the trek in between the two. When I was 12, I didn’t exactly write a letter to myself, but I did write down all the things I wanted to do with my life. Looking back, I’ve done a good deal of those things and I’m grateful. When you’re 12, 20-something seems like a grown-up age and you long to get there. But when you’re 20-something, 50 seems so old and so far away that you dread the thought. Maybe it is a thing to fear or just the thought that scares us; then again, maybe it isn’t. You be that judge. But here is my letter to myself at 50. Read more…

However, your young life is the best time for you to set targets for yourself above and beyond what you learn and do in life. There are certain things you can manage to accomplish in the midst of what I am sure is your busy existence that will make you happy you did when you hit 40. Read more…

3 Real Habits of Seriously Creative People (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 201)

3 Real Habits of Seriously Creative People

“To draw, you must close your eyes and sing.”
— Pablo Picasso

The creation of the world is about the only thing that has been done and finished completely. Everything else remains to be done or improved in some way. Creative people know what has been done, what has yet to be done, and what really needs improving. If it isn’t perfect — and that’s nearly everything — it can be made better. And that is where creative people find their energy, their muse, and their satisfaction. Read more…

Your Life Is In Front of You (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 29)

Your Life Is In Front of You

“Be not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living, and your belief will help create the fact.”
— William James

No matter how old you are or how much you have been through, your life is in front of you if you choose it to be. So many people who are older in life and who have not lived up to their potential, feel as though it is too late to make a change or dream bigger or aim higher. The truth is, this very moment can be the starting point of your best life. No one is too old to become who they were meant to be.
