Set the Resolution but Get a Plan Together (Vita. Consilio. 01.04.17)

vitaconsilio010417

The start of a new year brings a jolt of reality and reflection for many people. After all, it is the perfect time to turn the page on bad habits, negative behaviors, and less-than-great relationships.

However, our track record on resolutions is pretty sorry. In a study of 3000 individuals, The University of Hertfordshire’s Richard Wiseman found that 88% of those studied broke their resolutions. And surprisingly, “Even people who resolved merely to “enjoy life more” failed 68% of the time.” Read more…

— Christine Kane

No matter how many times you venture out to do something new, there is going to be the risky and scary proposition that it won’t work. In the back of our minds, there is the very nagging and unsettling question, “How do I know?” How do I know the next book I write isn’t going to be a complete flop? How do I know that I am moving in the right direction? How do I know I am dating the right person? How do I know I am doing the best I can at work or in school? Read more…

It Is All Very Much Up To Us (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 250)

It Is All Very Much Up To Us

“There is no life as complete as the life that is lived by choice.”
— Shad Helmstetter

Viktor Frankl, one of my personal heroes, is known as an Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist. But perhaps he is better known as a survivor of the Holocaust. To describe the time he spent in three concentration camps as brutal would most likely be an understatement. Any average person would have felt hopeless and wanted to give up on the will to live in such a situation. Just one day, not even a week or a month, would have been enough to throw the course of life off its tracks. Read more…

Embrace Every Opportunity (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 247)

Embrace Every Opportunity

Ephesians 5:16 (NLT)
Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.

Since the time we were born, each and every one of us had a dream. For some, that dream may have changed as we got older. For others, it never changes, it only seems to get more attractive. Ambitions and dreams should be a big part of all of our lives. Without the ability to dream, we are more likely to lose hope and miss out on the goodness and beauty of life. Read more…
