Plans and Wills (Soul. Musings. 01/03/17)
Of all the things that can offer satisfaction in life, reaching your goals would seem to be the most important. We all have goals but very few of us reach them. For whatever reason, we get sidetracked, we get lost, we let stuff get in the way. And we never get to where we think we should go yet still yearning deep on the inside for that real satisfaction.
Setting goals is the easy part. It’s sticking with the plan, day in and day out, come rain or shine, come help or hurt, that sometimes pushes us off the beaten path. It’s not a secret, but if you want to get somewhere, anywhere, in life you have to have two things: a plan — not a perfect plan, just a good-enough plan; and a stubborn will to get there.
There are all kinds of tips and tricks and even secrets to help you set goals and reach them. But ultimately what it really boils down to is the big “I” in will. It’s up to you. Yes, you have a say-so in what gets done and what doesn’t, where you arrive and how and when you get there. Of course, there are plenty of people who would gladly set goals for it, but that takes all the challenge and courage out of the process.
