Trust Day by Day (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 363)
Matthew 6:11 (NLT)
Give us today the food we need.
God can see the end from the beginning, but He gives us just enough light, strength, grace, and provisions for this day. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Not next month. Not next year. Not a decade from now. He wants us to trust Him for today. And then keep on trusting Him every day. Trust is not a one and done process; it is an active process that continues on and on in order for it to produce effective results in our lives.
The truth is, if God gave us everything we need or want all at once up-front, we would never learn to trust Him. We would never learn to pray consistently. We would never know what it means to exercise our faith or to walk by faith. We would never know what it means to wait for an answer because we would already have everything. We ask for our daily bread and anything else we need on a daily basis to show God that we trust Him and we are relying on him to provide.
When we ask for what we need on a daily basis, we have no need to worry about anything. We don’t have to worry because God keeps His promises. It is a slap in His face when we worry and fret about daily provisions when all we have to do is ask. Scripture states very clearly, if you ask, you will receive; if you look, you will find; if you knock, the door will be opened to you. God knows what we need before we even ask but He wants us to ask.
When we pray, it changes everything. It lifts a burden off of our hearts when we know we have placed our requests in the hands of the One who can fill it. Big problems become small when we allow God to take over. If He can provide for us here, then he can also provide for us there. We draw closer to God each day when we learn to truly trust Him every day. God wants us to put Him first in our lives because He can be trusted to be first. When we develop the habit of trusting God, life becomes worth living and easier to manage.
“It is just as important to trust God as it is to obey Him. When we disobey God we defy His authority and despise His holiness. But when we fail to trust God we doubt His sovereignty and question His goodness.”
