The Future Is Under Someone’s Control (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 303)

Job 12:10 (NLT)
For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being.

One of the greatest commonalities among all mankind is that we fear. Fear is a universal indicator that we are human. The greatest thing that we fear is the future. We fear the future for the sake of our families, our friends, our careers, and our own personal livelihood. And we fear largely because we are not in control.

But our inability to control everything and everyone should drive us to the throne of God on a daily basis. It really should force us to put our hand in God’s hand and give our heart and all the worries and concerns of the day over to him. After all, he created the world and put us in it. He’s the best person to know what we should be doing with our lives.

We might not be in control of everything in our present or in our future, but God is. In fact, God is in our present and in our future all at the same time. If he wanted to, he could just move us from where we are straight to heaven in one shot. Since he doesn’t choose to do that, we have to be content knowing that everything is working out according to his plan. Yes, even the bad stuff.

Some of us want to see into he future so badly that we stress ourselves out trying to control people and situations. We are afraid not to have a grip on everything. We keep a tight lid on our lives and never receive a quarter of the blessings we could receive if we would just let God be in control. Far too many of us see joy, hope and peace evade out lives simply because we refuse to trust.

Trust is hard, I know. But at some point in your life, you’ve got to believe that God is in control of your life. And because he is in control, everything is going to be all right. God has a reason for all that is going on and he is going to make something good come out of it. Either he will give you a blessing or he will teach you a lesson. Instead of fighting the fact that you don’t have control, pray for God to give you direction to follow his plan and will, patience to wait on his promises, and wisdom to know when it is all right there.

We can trust God with our lives because Job tells us, “For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being.” God cares deeply for you — every part of your life, the good, the bad, and the in between. He doesn’t cause bad things to happen, but he does see the end from the beginning and works everything out according to his good plan.

Most things in the world and in our lives are not good. But God’s plans are always good. So as you go about your day, don’t worry. Don’t concern yourself with what’s going to happen or what might happen or what could happen. God is and always has been in control even when earthly situations seem chaotic and out of control. Put your trust in the One who holds the future just as carefully as he holds you right now.

“I do not want to foresee the future. I am concerned with taking care of the present. God has given me no control over the moment following.”
— Mahatma Gandhi
