Never Far, Always Close (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 298)

Acts 17:27 (NLT)
His purpose was for the nations to seek after God and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him—though he is not far from any one of us.

God is closer to us than we think and never as far away as we feel. Every moment of every day, God is close to us. As close as our hands can touch our face, as close as our feet can touch the ground, as close as we can feel our heartbeat, God is not far away from any one of us. God puts himself near us not so we can always feel him but so we can gain strength to believe that he is there.

There will be times in your life when you feel God is millions of miles away. If you get desperately sick, you may feel that God is no longer near. If you are grieving the loss of a loved one, you may ask where is God in all of this. If you are lost and confused, you may find yourself searching for that almighty power to scoop you up into his arms. You see, feelings almost never meet reality.

We talk about hunches and intuition, but none of that comes into play with God. God is there just as he said he is — near us, close to us, ever present, never far away. We don’t have to feel anything. Feelings do not negate the reality of the truth of scripture that God is eternally and forever near us and with us. The main purpose for our existence on this earth is to seek and find God.

We can know God is never far away and always close to us because he is never too busy to hear our prayers, comfort us in our hurts, and think about us when we least expect it. He thinks about us every moment of every day. When we call him, he always picks up. When we need him, he is ever ready and present to help us. He enjoys meeting our needs and giving us the good and perfect desires of our hearts.

You might be going through a difficult time right now. Perhaps everything around you is chaotic and confusing. Maybe your family has disappointed you or a friend has upset you. Or you might be suffering a loss or an overwhelming and exhausting week. You don’t have to struggle alone. God is there for you because he loves you more than you’ll ever know. He cares about you deeply — every part of you, the good, the bad, and the ugly. You matter to him.

God is not a God just for the good times of your life. God desires to be with you in those times when you are more likely to be physically alone, emotionally spent, mentally exhausted and about to give up. God is especially close to you in those times. Turn to him now and know that he is always by your side — never far, always close.

“I am as sure as I live that nothing is so near to me as God. God is nearer to me than I am to myself; my existence depends on the nearness and the presence of God.”
— Meister Eckhart
