You Can Depend on God (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 222)

You Can Depend on God

James 1:17 (NLT)
Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

People say that change is the only constant thing there is. But there is Someone else who is constant as well and his name is God. When everything is changing around us and people aren’t who they used to be, it is comforting to remember that God does not change. He is the same every day, every minute of every day. You can depend on him and he is worthy of our trust and reliance.

Human beings can often be unpredictable. Many of us change with the circumstances or with the weather or even with how people treat us or what they say about us. Some of us are so unpredictable that even our friends and family don’t like being around us when we’re in certain moods. Thankfully, God is consistent. He wants his children to be secure in his love and care.

If you cannot count on anything else, you can count on the fact that God is always there for you. He always acts the same toward you. He is faithful and will never disown you or leave you to yourself. When everything else is unstable, you need something solid upon which to stand. You need a rock and your rock is God.

When we encounter loss or difficulty, we often look for a shoulder to cry on or a listening, compassionate ear. There is only one problem with that, in this world, nothing stays the same. People leave, attitudes change, and hearts grow cold. It is impossible to depend on the instability of the world to be your firm foundation. There is only one Person who you can depend on at all times and who is always there. His name is God. He is an anchor for your soul and the consistent, loving Father who cares for you deeply and loves you unconditionally.

“I have learned that faith means trusting in advance what will only make sense in reverse.”
— Philip Yancey
