Benefits of Fearing the King (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 221)
Proverbs 16:6 (NLT)
Unfailing love and faithfulness make atonement for sin. By fearing the Lord, people avoid evil.
A healthy fear and respect for God leads us to develop a personal and intimate relationship with God. It is hard to trust a person who we don’t respect and it’s difficult to have a relationship with someone who you don’t trust. We cannot begin to have a real relationship with God until we understand that our lives are in God’s hands and he has our best interests at heart.
When we trust God, it becomes much easier to fear him. In our healthy fear of God, we are eternally aware of His goodness, greatness, and grace. Being aware of God causes us to acknowledge his power in our lives. By fearing him, we open the door for a wide range of blessings to enter our lives. A healthy fear of God keeps us from the path of sin and on the path of his purpose for us.
Our fear of God will open our hearts and minds to hear his voice. And when we hear him, we are more likely to obey him and follow his direction. And when we follow his direction, we prove to him that we are willingly to trust him. When we trust him, we are striving toward a life of consistent obedience which by default leads us out of the wrong path.
“The remarkable thing about God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.”
— Oswald Chambers
