God Isn’t a People-Pleaser (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 211)
Luke 6:26 (NLT)
What sorrow awaits you who are praised by the crowds…
What happens when there are two sides in a game? One side is bound to win while the other side, by default, lose. If both sides were declared winners, there wasn’t a real contest to begin with. At sports games, fans cheer for their team, but only one team wins. In elections, supporters root for one candidate or another, but only one person can be the winner.
It is impossible to make everyone happy at the same time. God knows this as well and doesn’t concern himself with pleasing people. While children may pray for snow, adults may pray for clear roads and skies. God does what he deems to be right for his world and the people he has put in it. He allows the sun to shine at times, rain to come at other times, and thunderstorms to pass through still at other times. God isn’t a people pleaser.
And neither should we be. Only a fool thinks he can make all people around him happy at the same time. It’s impossible to do and even if you could, you may end up with a miserable existence. Trying to please everybody only proves that you do not really have any core beliefs or any standards upon which you live your life. When you are tempted to please everyone, remember that you can’t do anything that God himself cannot do.
“If you live for people’s acceptance, you will die from their rejection.”
