Past and Gone (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 208)
Philippians 3:13 (NLT)
No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead…
Do you find yourself thinking or talking about the past? Have you ever had a wise friend to tell you it’s best to let it go? Do you worry about what happened years ago to the neglect of what is happening now or could happen in the future? The past is part of our lives but it should not be intended to control our lives.
Nothing holds more power over our present and our future than the control we give to our past. It can be an event, a situation, a tragedy, a thought, or something someone said or did that can stop you in your tracks every time it crosses your mind. It may even be a stronghold that hinders your spiritual growth and stunts your faith in God.
If you have something in your past that tends to leave you with regret, it really is time to let it go. God doesn’t deal with us in our past; He works with us in our present and prepares us for our future. Let God free you from your past and give you grace to move on. What you focus on will become a huge part of your life. Instead of focusing on your past, look forward to what lies ahead.
“Trust the past to God’s mercy, the present to God’s love, and the future to God’s providence.”
