It Is All A Gift (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 204)
1 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)
What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?
Everything you and I have is a gift from God. This is why He doesn’t want us to compete with other people or compare what we have to what someone else has. When we envy other people, we tell God how unhappy we are with His will for our lives. Instead of wishing for what someone else has, we need to remind ourselves that God has given us everything we need in life.
Envy and jealousy causes us to think that if we just have what someone else has, we will be happy and fulfilled. But many thousands of people throughout history can testify to the fact that nothing could be further from the truth. Those who love things and money more than the will of God will find those tangible things slipping through their fingers faster than they imagine.
Envy is like poison. It hinders everything and holds up God’s blessings from being bestowed on our lives. God is an abundant God. He loves and cares for everybody equally and unconditionally. And He has a vast amount of blessings to give to all people including you and including me. So don’t be jealous of what someone else has — it is all a gift of grace from the Heavenly Father.
“The cure for the sin of envy and jealousy is to find our contentment in God.”
