If You Want To Go Far … (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 194)

If You Want To Go Far…

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.”
— Helen Keller

In Africa, there is a proverb that says, “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” The lone ranger mentality may work on some occasions such as when one has to stand alone. But if you’re looking to get things done in life, you must engage other people.

The most productive people in the world have two things in common with each other. First, they all have a support team to keep them motivated and stimulated. Coworkers, partners, mentors, coaches, employees, and even close friends — productive people have a solid, honest inner circle to rely on.

Second, productive people know how to delegate and outsource. Part of having a good support group is having people around you who can do certain things better than you can. If you’re a lone ranger, you have to do everything, and as a result, get nothing accomplished. But when you have other people who can work alongside you doing what they do best while you do what you do best, everyone will get somewhere.

Beyond surrounding yourself with the right people, you should interact with people who have already accomplished what you want to accomplish in life. The best motivation is seeing that someone else has already walked the same road or taken a similar journey. This will help you to learn faster and even bypass some of the failures that they have experienced.

Research shows that engaging with other people can impact your resiliency and persistency when you hit bumps in the road on your way to your goals. You will make some mistakes, but you don’t have to repeat those that someone else has already made. A clearly defined vision will trigger the reticular activating system in your brain. This bodily function helps us to mentally decide what to stay alert for and what to ignore.

Building a support team can help to develop a state of certainty about what you can achieve. The people you choose to surround yourself with will influence you in a positive way to use your energy and time on reaching your goals. And they will give you space to make mistakes, think for yourself, and ultimately learn and grow as a human being.

“If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.”
— Henry Ford
