No Greater Gift (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 186)
John 15:13 (NLT)
There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
There are very few things in life more important and more desired than freedom. We fight for it, we die for it, and we celebrate it. But the core of freedom is never free. It does not come to us without a cost. And that cost is a great one. Freedom is the one thing that all people all over the world want the most.
Freedom is really the most expensive gift one can receive. The reason is because it comes at an expensive cost — the price of the blood and life of someone else. Men and women — thousands of them from various nationalities and ethnicities — have shed their blood and given up their lives so that we could have this expensive gift.
It is true in the world, but it is also true in God’s kingdom. God thought freedom was important too. And He made it possible to have freedom in this life and in the next, in our world and in our hearts. God sent Jesus to shed His blood and give up His life so we can have eternal security and freedom. There is no greater gift than that.
“If God thinks this state of war in the universe a price worth paying for free will then we may take that it is worth paying.”
— C.S. Lewis
