Growing Farther (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 144)
John 3:3 (NLT)
Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
Being born again is a sign of new life, of transformation, of an about-face from one way of living to a completely better way of life. It is a spiritual process of which the end result is eternal life. This process involves much more than going deeper. Being born again challenges us to go farther, to cultivate an experience that is defined by growth.
Nicodemus was a well-respected leader in the Jewish community in Jesus’ day. He knew the Scriptures but he didn’t know the Christ of the Scriptures. Isn’t it amazing how we can know something but not be knowledgable about the person behind it? Sadly, many believers are like Nicodemus. We aim to gain more knowledge but miss the whole point of knowing Jesus.
True spiritual growth is always about progress — progress that goes deeper and farther. God doesn’t want us to get stuck in the baby stage of spiritual life, or even the teenage stage. He wants us to go beyond the young adult stage to full grown maturity. Gaining more knowledge is just a start. We must strive to know Him more and put into action what we learn along the way.
“Jesus is God spelling Himself out in language that men can understand.”
