Even More Blessed (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 136)

Even More Blessed

Luke 11:28 (NLT)
Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.”

At any given moment on any given day, our attention is pulled in many different directions. People, things, and situations all vie for our consideration. It’s easier to let our minds wander in whatever direction it chooses to go than to focus on one thing. Attention deficit disorder isn’t just a diagnosis for some; it’s a reality for many.

Even as believers, we can experience A.D.D. We think that because we are hearing, we are listening. But that is not always the case. When God speaks to us, His words should not fall on deaf ears. When we really hear something, we are to act upon what we have heard. The proof of our hearing and understanding is backed by action.

God has a plan for each of our lives. Unless we are quiet enough to hear His voice, we will find ourselves far off the path God has set before us. The great thing about God is that He not only wants to direct us, but when we refuse to listen and end up in a place we never expected to be, He is willing to redirect us.

You are blessed if you hear God’s word. But what good is it to know you are in the path of a fast-approaching tornado and not to do anything about it? The Bible tells us that we are even more blessed if we hear it and obey it. We prove our love for the Lord by doing what He has called us to do. Pray for God to help you open your ears and heart to Him, not only to hear, but to obey.

“The [written] Word is the wire along which the voice of God will certainly come to you if the heart is hushed and the attention fixed.”
— Frederick B. Meyer
