Going Where We Need To Go (365 Days of Daring Faith – DAY 122)

Going Where We Need To Go

Proverbs 21:1 (NLT)
The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; he guides it wherever he pleases.

True, authentic leadership is lacking in today’s society. We don’t have to look far to see that many people are focused on going in their own direction. Imagine a government in which each lawmaker was making his or her own individual rules and regulations. Imagine a school where every teacher taught whatever subject they wanted to teach. Imagine an environment where everybody followed whatever path they chose to follow. There would be chaos and confusion.

Everyone WANTS to go somewhere, but not everyone NEEDS to go where they WANT to go. True leadership will take you where you need to go. It will lead you in the best direction for your life’s purpose. This is what God does. He leads us to the places we need to go where we learn to trust, develop character, submit to His will, and grow into the people He originally designed us to be. We can try to negotiate with God, but it never works. Think about Jonah.

In all His sovereignty and omnipotence, God knows what is best for us. He knows the end from the beginning and He has plotted and planned each of our lives according to His unique and carefully developed path. He wants us to experience life on the journey we need, not the journey we want. God often takes us where we need to go even if we don’t want to go there. He reminds us that He has our best interests at heart and that we can trust Him to guide our future because He is already there.

“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
— Frederick Buechner
