3 Additional Signs You’re Moving Forward (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 113)
“Success is a journey, not a destination. The doing is often more important than the outcome.”
— Arthur Ashe
Making progress is hard work. It’s much easier to stay in one place, one position, with the covers over our head, pretending that we don’t exist. But after a while staying still begins to feel cramped and your insides start to push against your nerves. And you seriously find yourself yearning to move on to better things. When your guts get hot enough, dedication and commitment start to show. And that’s all you really need to push yourself to the reality that life moves on.
Here are three more signs you’re moving forward in life even if you don’t feel it:
1. When you realize success is not a destination. It’s true. Success is not a place you can travel to. It’s not a destination. It’s a way of life, a way of thinking, and a way of being. But you’re lucky enough to know this. Success is a part of your life because you make it a part of your day. Each day you build upon the previous day’s accomplishments. Your effort and dedication are tools that help you develop success in every aspect of your life. You’ve learned to appreciate the small accomplishments and to pay attention to the details of big goals. What you do is just as important as what you gain.
2. When you take time to engage in play and fun. The words play and fun are increasingly foreign to an adult’s vocabulary. Such activities are perceived to be for little children. But you’re smarter than that. You realize that both work and play are necessary for a well balanced life. You work as hard and as smart as you can, but you play in equal measure. You believe that play can dramatically transform every aspect of your life. You invite yourself to experience the intrinsic rewards of play. It generates optimism, induces humor, nourishes interaction, and enhances relationships. But, you already knew.
3. When you spend all your energy being you instead of someone else. It takes courage to be yourself. You realize that you can’t live someone else’s dream and no one else can live yours. You know you only get one shot at life so you don’t waste your opportunities to live and fill your wonderful place in the world. You are intent on making your mark. The world is in need of real people and so you’ve have stepped up to the plate to be who you were made to be. You realize you’re the only person in the world who can be you and you love every minute of the journey.
“Be yourself. Everyone else is taken.”
— Oscar Wilde
