3 More Signs You’re Moving Forward (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 109)
“Waiting for perfect is never as smart as making progress.”
— Seth Godin
A lot of times, we don’t make progress because we don’t feel the circumstances are perfect enough. Perfect circumstances, timing, people, or perfect anything should be the least of worries when we are trying to move forward. Everything, it seems, will be far from perfect. It may even feel like a struggle. It may feel slow and irritating. But you need to realize that struggle always precedes progress. And slow progress is a million dollars better than no progress at all.
Here are three more signs you’re moving forward in life even if you don’t feel it:
1. When you no longer make excuses. Making excuses is for losers, or at least it is for lazy people. You know you’re making progress when you no longer complain about the obstacles in front of you. Instead you look for ways to overcome them. Progress takes time but making excuses will only take more time from getting where you want to be. You realize nobody is impressed with excuses because they are little lies we tell when we lack the motivation to do something. But people love to hear a good story of comeback and overcoming adversity.
2. When you start doing your very best all the time. When you do your best only when you’re being watched, you’re not really doing your best. You’re not helping yourself or the other person. You are only showing how cheap and insecure you are. People who do their best all the time do so for themselves. Doing your best gives you a sense of good pride, helps you experience meaning, and gives you a good feeling about yourself and your accomplishments whether someone is watching or not. When you do your best all the time, you can look yourself in the mirror and be happy about your progress.
3. When you start looking for opportunity instead of whining there are none. Successful people have a good mind to look for solutions to problems, creating things out of nothing, and make the impossible possible. Many times in life, opportunity is not going to drop into your lap. You have to go and find it. Many people would miss opportunity even if it came to their doorstep dressed as their best friend. When there is no opportunity, you are willing to create it because you see it as a challenge. Opportunity is not something you wait for, but something you create. If you’re realizing that, you are making progress.
“Making excuses takes the same amount of time as making progress.”
