What Is Your Role In the World? (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 76)

What Is Your Role In the World

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with this one wild and precious life?”
— Mary Oliver

Everyone is made to fill a role in the world. No two people’s roles are exactly the same. They may be similar in scope and sequence, but they are different at the core. Your goal is to figure out what you really want to do in life and then fill that role with all the gusto and gumption you can. I say to figure it out. But, really, it’s not a mystery. Just open your heart and mind to the opportunities that come your way with your name on them.

Ask yourself how you feel when you are doing what you do. Do you feel as though it is meaningless or fulfilling? Are you comfortable in the role you are playing? If you aren’t comfortable, then you will feel like a fake, a fraud, an actor who is playing the role of someone he is not. Discovering your role in life will build your self-esteem, increase confidence, and give you inner happiness and peace.

In finding your role in the world, you find your life’s purpose. You will settle on the visions you have for yourself. Your visions will guide you set goals. Your goals will motivate you to get up and get going day after day, to fight for your beliefs, and passionately pursue something good and meaningful in life. Your values and beliefs will emerge in the process and you will find what really matters to you.

Some people have their roles given to them. But if you haven’t gotten a role given to you, then you need to create your own role. If you do it as well and as passionately as you can, you will find it to be fulfilling and meaningful. You are responsible for being aware that opportunities are present before you must decide to act on them. The moments in which you jump on opportunities are what will help you define and discover what your role is in the world.

“Sometimes when you lose your way, you find YOURSELF.”
— Mandy Hale
