Bloom Here Now (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 46)
“Let me tell ya. You gotta pay attention to signs. When life reaches out with a moment like this, it’s a sin if you don’t reach back.”
— Matthew Quick
You’ve probably heard the phrase, “bloom where you’re planted.” This isn’t just an old adage or a sage saying. It means that each person should be open to opportunities that exist in their life and be enthusiastic and grateful for where they are and what they can do right now at this very moment. Great opportunities are all around us if we only choose to look for them and take advantage of the ones we find.
Sometimes, we will find ourselves in situations that are uncomfortable for us or be engaged in activities and opportunities that don’t exactly align with our calling and mission in life. Sometimes, what we think we should be doing is not what we’re able to do at the moment. Where we think we should be is not where we are. In these times, we have to decide whether we will choose to press on or give up.
You see, every day is a gift. Every opportunity is a chance to learn and grow. Where you are now is preparation for where you will be in the future. What you’re doing now is a test for what you will be doing in the future. It isn’t enough to just bloom when everything is going your way and you’re in the position you want. You’ve got to bloom here now. I’ve got to bloom here now.
So, start accepting opportunities that come your way. Identify positive points in every situation. Everyone lands on learning ground first. It’s what you do here that makes the difference. The opportunity you’re tempted to reject may be the very one that gets you on the ramp to the opportunities you really want. Stop waiting for perfect moments. Things don’t always come wrapped as their supposed to. Gifts aren’t always presented in Christmas paper.
Be grateful for the dirt surrounding your feet and the mess it is to pull yourself together every day and take advantage of the opportunities before you. Let every moment teach you what it wants to teach you. Work with what you have while at the same time wishing for something more. Celebrate the small steps and reflect on yesterday with the intent to do better, be better, and live better. If you bloom here now, you never know what opportunities await for you to bloom there later.
“When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.”
— Alexander Graham Bell
